Kathryn Leigh Clubb (Martha ‘hip-hop hooray’) is
back again to write up on all that’s been happening at our
rehearsals for High School Musical! I know it hasn’t been
that long since I’ve written, but since so much more is
happening at (and between) rehearsals, I’m probably going
to be updating more often.
Well the cast is officially off book, we can still call for
lines from Ms. Sara’s assistant, Katie, (if we need to),
but that ends this Friday. Heh-heh… oh boy… No, just
kidding, we’ll be fine!
In case you are wondering, here is a quick run-down of a typical
day of full-act run-throughs (which we just started):
When we first arrive, we usually stand around with our close
friends chatting (for example the group that I stand with talks
about our favorite musicals {current obsession: Spring Awakening…
hee hee}, or what we’ve been doing in the day time…
etc, etc…). Now don’t get me wrong, we’re all
one big group, but when we first come in, you just kinda gab to
the people closest to where you put your stuff down. Then Mr.
Thom or Tosha and/or Taylor will corral us around the piano for
a short vocal warm-up. After that, Sofia will lead us in a quick
physical warm-up. When we finish that, Ms. Sara will ask us to
‘pop a squat’ (still haven’t quite figured out
exactly what that means), and she will tell us what she wants
to get done that night. Then we start the run-through, and we
go straight through without interruption. After finishing, we
‘pop a squat’ once more, and Mr. Thom, Jose, Katie
and Ms. Sara give us notes that they jotted during the run-through.
Finally they will work with us on small scenes that go from involving
the most people to the least amount of people, so we aren’t
there all night.
After rehearsal, of course, we usually go home, but lately some
of the cast have had birthdays and have brought cup-cakes or a
cake with them for the rest of the cast (SIDE NOTE: When DeJon
brought in a cake for his 17th birthday, he had trick candles,
ha ha; putting those out was, to say the least, exciting…
let’s just say that all of that good-for-your-voice, room
temperature water definitely came in handy…:END SIDE NOTE).
So we will stay and eat that, or some of us will burn off some
energy by doing leaps with each other, and some of us (like we
did last Thursday) will go to Dairy Queen and sing a cappella
while eating ice cream and harmonizing (whoo hoo!!).
The costumer, Andrew, has been at rehearsals, and we have been
running wardrobe pieces of our own by him for approval…
and we finished choreographing the “High School Musical
Megamix”. Yay!!
