Hi! My name is Kathryn Leigh Clubb, aka Martha Cox (Hip-Hop Hooray!), and I will be your behind the scenes pass to the production processes of High School Musical the Musical!

For the past two weeks, the cast has been working with our amazing music director, Thom Garrison (who frequently reminds us to not be Disney), on random parts of random songs… but then I guess that’s theatre… it’s a lot of work, but we’re having a lot of fun. I’m excited about a few new songs that have been added to the stage version (i.e. “Cellular Fusion” and “Counting on You”). Yeah, learning those is, erm, interesting to say the least…

On Wednesday we had our first dance rehearsal where we learned the dance for “Status Quo”. It was really cool how Jose (the choreographer / director’s husband – SIDE NOTE: to quote my friend, “Ohhhhh, so that’s why they were acting all couple-y… that would make sense…” END SIDE NOTE-) taught all of the different sections (there are like six) all scrambled and then miraculously he pieced them all together. It was really cool to see how it all fit. We were dancing to the soundtrack of the musical, and Jose would shout, “Ok… now section 5b – REBELS!!!”

Well, that’s all for this week! I think I’ll end all my blog entries the same way we end every rehearsal:
“What team!? – WILDCATS!
What team!? – WILDCATS!
What team!? – WILDCATS!
Wildcats! – Get your head in the game!”
